This is something I've been studying lately, and I though I'd share some of it with you all... my mind really does run in circles that most people have a hard time understanding, so if this doesn't make sense for some reason... sorry lol ..
So this morning I was reading Matthew 26. The chapter where Judas betrays Jesus and Peter denies Him 3 times... As I was reading I was thinking... (good thing to do..) about how Jesus must have felt to have someone He loved and trusted so dearly betray Him like that. Yet He knew he would.. When He went to Gethsemane He knew it was just a matter of time before He would be taken away. What I'm getting to though is verse 42 when He is crying out to God.. "O Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, Thy will be done." I love it because, even in the midst of all that was going on, He could still say "not my will, but Thine". How many of us can say that and mean it? For me personally, that's something I pray every day... For God to do His will in my life. Yet I still try and take control of things myself... It's hard not to! Even though I know God has it all under control, it's still hard to really and truly give him complete and total control over every area of my life. I've taken things into my own hands a couple of times, and needless to say, it's caused nothing but heartache. I mean, it seems SO easy to just be like 'yeah, God, you can do whatever you want with my life. I'm Yours'... But the true test comes when things don't go how you want them to. You say you would go wherever God calls you, do whatever He'd have you to do.. but would you really? If He called you to be a missionary in Haiti, how would you like that? Or if He called you to a life of singleness? My guess is you'd be going "what was I thinking??" But here's the thing... He won't call you to something that you hate. Yeah being a missionary over in some 3rd world country would be hard, but He would give you a heart for it. And not ever getting married would be hard as well, but you would learn that, while it would be nice to be married, God is really all you need. Kinda like in Proverbs 37:4 how it says to delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.. A lot of people take that verse the wrong way. "I REALLY want a new car, so I'm going to delight myself in the Lord so He'll give me one!!" Not. How. It. Works.... When you do delight yourself in the Lord, He'll put His desires for you in your heart. And then fulfill them. "God has editing rights over our prayers: He will... edit them, correct them, bring them in line with His will, and then hand them back to us to be resubmitted"
- "I delight to do Thy will, o my God.." -Psalm 40:8
- "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done.." -Matthew 6:10
- "... I come to do Thy will, o God" -Hebrews 10:7
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will you give you the desires of your heart"
And I, more than anyone, have SO much more to learn. This is just the beginning..
