This mornings message at church, based on John 8:25-29, was excellent, so I thought I'd jot down some key things from the notes I took... Mr Maxson preached it, and it was, as the title says, about living to please the Father. Jesus lived to please the Father. Everything He did, every second He lived, was for the Father. "For I do always the things that please Him" Jesus sought to please the Father, and for that reason the Father was with Him. Everyone lives to please someone.. Who do you live for? Who are you desiring to please? Jesus pleased the Father by doing His will, by following His commandments. That is the only way to ever please the Father. Do His will.
- Seek to do His will
- Seek your delight in the things that delight the Father
- Pursue the Father's pleasure with greater passion
Jesus goes on to declare, because He does the Father's will... "I am not alone; my Father is with me" The greatest blessing of all is to have God present in your life. He is the greatest of all. God made us in such a way that we find ourselves the most fulfilled, the most complete, in His presence. Can you say that you have a felt sense of His presence in your life? Jesus had that felt sense, that assurance, in His life all the time. He later says it again, "And He that sent me is with me" and "The Father has not left me alone". It is a terrible thing to be utterly abandoned by God. The absolute worst thing a person can experience is to be left alone by God. Where do you stand in relation to the Father? Are you alone?
John 8...
25. Then they said to him. Who art thou? Jesus said to them, From the beginning, 1 because I also speak to you. 2 26. I have many things to speak and judge of you; but he who hath sent me is true, and I speak to the world those things which I have heard from him. 27. They knew not that he spoke to them of the Father. Jesus therefore said to them, 28. When you shall have exalted the Son of man, then shall you know that I am, and that I do nothing of myself; but as the Father hath taught me, I speak. 29. And he who hath sent me is with me. The Father hath not left me alone, because I always do the things which please him.
Well I guess that about sums it up... I obviously couldn't cover everything, but you get the gist of it.
What I heard of it was great! I was in the nursery so you know how that goes...:)
